Sun and room to grow

Choose a sunny position and a stable pot for your eucalyptus. Young plants should have time to establish before winter. A sheltered spot reduces additional stress from wind.

Do not underestimate its thirst in a pot

Check moisture regularly. A container can dry out quickly in warmth and wind. Water according to need and allow excess water to drain. The root ball should neither remain constantly wet nor dry out completely.

Water must be able to drain

Use a suitable, free-draining growing medium and keep drainage holes clear. When roots fill the pot well, move the plant gradually into a slightly larger container with fresh growing medium.

Hardy does not mean invulnerable

How much frost a plant tolerates depends, among other things, on its species, age and position. Protect the roots in the container in particular and avoid winter waterlogging. Check moisture occasionally in winter too. During severe frost, a suitable sheltered position is important.

Good to know

Does eucalyptus need water in winter?

Yes, the root ball must not dry out completely then either. Check its needs and water moderately on frost-free days.

Can it stay permanently in the small delivery pot?

As it grows, a larger container becomes necessary. Repot gradually when roots and growth require it.
