Your care table

TopicWhat to doWhy it helps
PositionWarm with bright, filtered light.Blazing sun is not needed to see the midrib.
WaterMaintain a lightly moist root zone.Avoid prolonged complete dryness.
DrainageLet excess drain away completely. The plant does not stand in a water reservoir.
ClimateAvoid abrupt draught and dryness changes.A quiet environment suits Macodes cultivation.
SoilAiry and moisture-retentive for terrestrial orchids.Dense wet soil impedes root supplies.
ContainerChoose a fairly shallow container according to actual root-ball needs.A very large pot is not automatically an improvement.
NutrientsFeed sparingly during growth according to the label.Leaf colour alone does not prove a nutrient deficiency.
ChecksInspect shoots and the young leaf tip gently.Healthy leaf surfaces remain uninjured.
1. Check moisture

Check the compost and pot weight. The care table explains how far the compost may dry.

2. Water slowly

Water only when needed. The water should reach the root ball without spilling over the rim.

3. Let it drain

Remove surplus water from the saucer or cachepot. Then return the plant to a suitable position.

A single midrib can guide the eye

Tiger Eye carries dark, pointed oval leaves. A fine yellowish to olive network covers the surface, while the lighter green midrib stands out especially clearly. The short young plant is therefore expressive even without a large crown. The offer names Macodes petola Tiger Eye. This trade name describes the selection, not a special flower colour. The original plant’s actual leaf markings remain the starting point: dark background, fine network and a fresh green line.

The small pot remains a genuine size reference

In a 6 cm pot, the delivery plant reaches roughly seven to nine centimetres total height. Just a few leaves and a short shoot determine its growth. On a light birch sideboard, a small taupe outer pot can emphasise the dark surface. The covering must not trap the inner pot, however. Its own clear position helps with lifting, checking and watering. A large arrangement with closely adjoining leaves can quickly remove this access. Treat every new leaf tip of the young miniature carefully.

Use light calmly rather than forcing colour

Macodes is cultivated with moderate to gentle filtered light. A warm, protected position without blazing sun supports even development. The pale midrib should be visible through the viewing angle, not the harshest possible lighting. After a move, observe the next unfolding and the short shoot. An existing dark leaf surface is not automatically a lighting fault. The portrait describes the selection shown in the shop; care should enable its development rather than precautionarily fight every natural colour change.

Even a dark miniature needs reliable moisture

Soil remains lightly moist without water standing in the container. Long dry phases and abrupt changes do not suit Macodes cultivation. Check the root ball regularly and water slowly onto the soil. Remove excess. A brief spray of the leaves does not replace missing root moisture. Conversely, an already wet pot is not watered extra just because a leaf seems slightly softer. Consider the small root zone, room warmth and latest conditions at the position together.

Care must reach the base

A moisture-retentive, airy terrestrial orchid medium and a suitable shallow container make cultivation easier. Handle the young root ball gently when repotting. Too much unused soil around the small plant can remain moist for a long time; choose the larger container according to genuine space needs. Apply fertiliser sparingly during growth according to the label. Check leaf undersides and short shoot bases without crushing the plant. Preserve healthy leaves. A cared-for miniature needs no regular shaping cuts to look decorative.

A tiger’s eye in the personal plant book

Tiger Eye can be a special focal point in suitable glass cultivation. Its surroundings must remain manageable, though; a container covered in condensation does not prove that the root ball is suitably supplied. For winter care the plant stays warm and protected, with moisture still checked. No current flowering is promised for the young delivery plant. In the plant book, combining the overall picture with a close-up along the midrib is worthwhile. Record new leaves and the position. Over time the little plant then shows more than a single attractive colour contrast.

Good to know

Does Tiger Eye get yellow flowers?

Tiger Eye is the trade name of the foliage selection; it does not promise a flower colour.

Is the dark foliage a deficiency?

The original shows this selection’s natural dark leaf markings.

Can I keep it in a terrarium?

Suitable glass cultivation is possible if warmth, moisture and air are right.

Should it stand dry like a cactus?

No. The terrestrial orchid needs a reliably lightly moist root zone.

Do seven to nine centimetres mean plant height only?

The offer gives total height including the small pot.
