| Identity | Link Magical Jewel with cultivar Hore140103. | RHS naming evidence connects trade name and named selection. |
| Light | Gentle sun or bright partial shade with reliable supply. | Sun tolerance does not remove a hot container's water needs. |
| Soil | Humus-rich moisture-holding soil with open drainage. | Rootball needs moisture and air together. |
| Blue colour | Suitable acidic hydrangea soil and preferably rainwater. | Colour also depends on soil reaction and aluminium availability. |
| Planting | In mild weather keep existing rootball height. | Young roots need contact and undisturbed development. |
| Water | Water beneath leaves and directly check rootball. | Wet heads do not prove moist roots. |
| Feed | Supply by need and label, especially in containers. | Overfeeding heals neither drought nor waterlogged roots. |
| Pruning | Remove old heads to strong buds in spring. | Previous-year flower-capable structure should remain. |
| Winter | Keep pots sheltered with free drainage; check on frost-free days. | Roots live after leaf fall and retain their needs. |
For young plants, feel the soil directly at the root ball. The surface and deeper soil may have different moisture levels.
Water thoroughly after planting; later, water according to the soil, weather and establishment rather than a fixed calendar.
Avoid standing water. For plants in containers, also check that water runs out of the drainage hole.
A garden jewel with living colours
Round Magical Jewel heads consist of broad decorative individual flowers. Blue shop picture shows gentle blue-violet fields, pale greenish edges and still-green young flowers. Strong toothed leaves sit below. Breeder confirms Jewel as distinct selection and presents blue and pink together. RHS naming profile links it to Hore140103 within Hydrangea macrophylla. Portrait covers garden hydrangea from specifically linked offer.
Pot size for the beginning
Shop describes twenty-three-centimetre pot with about fifty-five centimetres total height including container. Breeder gives up to about one metre for later compact garden plant. These are different reference points: young delivery size does not permanently limit the grown shrub. Flower number and condition vary with cultivation and season. Unpack by pot, check roots and remove wrapping without pulling heads. A developed flowering image aids identification but promises no identical bloom at every delivery date.
Sun tolerance needs supply
Breeder describes Jewel as sun tolerant. This does not automatically suit a hot dry container. Gentle morning sun or bright partial shade on balcony and terrace are often easier to supply reliably than intense midday heat. Sunnier garden positions need suitable roots and moisture. Choose humus-rich moisture-holding soil with drainage and about one metre spacing as compact-shrub guidance. Keep access to rootball and pot underside. Wind, dark pot walls and dense flower canopy may alter water requirements more than compact suggests.
Blue follows the soil
Blue and pink mopheads respond to soil reaction and available aluminium compounds. Suitable acidic hydrangea compost offers an understandable container starting point for continued blue colour. Rainwater is favourable, yet sufficient watering takes priority over perfect water choice during shortage. Blue delivery is not guaranteed unchanged blue in every garden soil. Later dark red described by breeder also belongs to head ageing. Arbitrary acids or home remedies are poor care experiments. Suitable colour treatments are used only by instructions and to fit soil.
Water must reach the rootball
Plant in mild weather in frost-free workable soil, preferably spring or autumn. Retain rootball height and water carefully. Check original root area in following weeks. Water soil directly beneath foliage as it begins drying. Rain may sit on leaves and heads while rootball is drier than expected. Excess must drain. First inspect soil beneath hanging leaves: a dry hydrangea needs water, an already wet ball needs closer drainage and root assessment.
Keep heads and recognise buds
Old round heads may remain in winter and give some protection to buds below. Remove to first strong healthy bud pair in spring when growth and frost damage are visible. Strong yearly pruning for panicle hydrangeas cannot be transferred unchecked to this mophead; it can remove previous-year flowering structure. In older dense shrubs remove individual old branches at base. Young delivery plants first need healthy roots and structure, not radical rejuvenation.
A quiet annual phase belongs
Colour and decorative duration depend weather, age and position; described dark-red development is not fixed deadline or flowering guarantee. Feed by need and label, especially in limited containers. Autumn leaf fall reduces water needs; still check dryness on frost-free days and keep outlets open. Root space needs effective protection from severe cold; a light cover does not guarantee frost-free soil. Young buds can suffer late frost. Wear gloves and keep inedible hydrangea parts away from children and pets.

Good to know
Which cultivar belongs to Magical Jewel?
Directly read RHS profile lists trade name for Hydrangea macrophylla Hore140103. Blue and pink are colour offers of that selection.
Are Jewel Blue and Jewel Pink two new plants?
No. Breeder lists both under same selection, treated together here.
Can it stay in sun all day?
Breeder describes tolerance; hot pots need especially reliable water and roots. Gentle sun is often easier.
Is 55 cm its later height?
No, delivery total includes 23 cm pot. Later breeder guidance reaches about 1 m.
Must blue remain forever?
No. Soil reaction affects blue and pink, while ageing changes head shades. Delivery picture shows one phase.
Why not cut everything short in autumn?
Mopheads retain previous-year flowering structure. Remove old heads to healthy buds in spring rather than deep general cuts.
