Your care table

TopicWhat to doWhy it helps
LightKeep bright in filtered daylight.Hot direct sun can damage firm leaves and open flowers.
WaterCheck roots and bark before watering; let them dry largely.Healthy roots becoming more silvery help assess the need.
DrainageAfter watering, let it drain completely and empty the outer pot.The orchid needs air around its roots rather than standing water.
CrownRemove water from the leaf centre and leaf axils.Persistent wetness in the crown encourages damage.
SubstrateUse airy orchid substrate with suitable bark pieces.Ordinary dense houseplant soil does not suit these epiphytic roots.
NutritionDuring active growth, feed weakly according to the orchid fertiliser label.Roots and fresh leaves determine demand; flower colour is not a feeding question.
StemsRemove completely dry stems; assess green ones by condition.Further growth is possible on healthy green stems but not promised.
WinterKeep warm and bright; avoid cold draughts and hot heating air.Light, warmth and root condition remain important after flowering.
1. Check moisture

Check the compost and pot weight. The care table explains how far the compost may dry.

2. Water slowly

Water only when needed. The water should reach the root ball without spilling over the rim.

3. Let it drain

Remove surplus water from the saucer or cachepot. Then return the plant to a suitable position.

White flowers shining beside the armchair

What we like about Amabilis is the clear shape of its white flowers. They stand above darker, firm foliage and are recognisable even from a little distance. The golden Elite outer pot gives the offered version a warm frame. On a small chest beside an armchair, it makes a calm focal point. The flowers need no overloaded background. We leave room around the arch so stems and buds are not knocked when passing. The original image shows the offered white-flowered form; it does not establish a fixed number of open flowers.

Gold and silver have their own delivery details

The golden version states a nine-centimetre pot, about forty centimetres total height and two to three flower spikes. The golden Elite outer pot is included in this offer. The separately linked silver version is described at about thirty-five centimetres total height. Both versions therefore retain their own measurements and outer-pot details. The trade name Amabilis is retained; we do not add a guarantee of a botanically pure species from the sales name alone. Protect supports and aerial roots when unpacking. The inner pot remains removable from the outer pot for care.

A bright position remains after the celebration

Filtered daylight and pleasant warmth suit this Phalaenopsis. Immediately before hot glass in midday sun, firm leaves and flowers can suffer. On the chest, what matters is how much daylight actually arrives. A decorative position farther back is not automatically suitable long term. Cold draughts during ventilation and immediate radiator proximity make cultivation harder. We keep the plant in a stable place where buds are not constantly moved. After a special celebration too, it needs suitable conditions rather than a permanent move to a dark room corner.

The golden outer pot is not a watering reservoir

Before watering, lift the inner pot and check roots and bark. When the substrate has largely dried and healthy visible roots look more silvery, water thoroughly. Then let it drain completely. Empty the golden outer pot before returning the orchid. A decorative container without drainage must not leave roots permanently underwater. Keep the leaf centre and axils dry. Drooping leaves first call for a look at the root ball; more water is not the right response to already wet, damaged roots.

Aerial roots are part of the orchid

Roots outside the pot belong to its epiphytic structure. Do not cut firm, healthy aerial roots merely to make the plant look neater. When bark has broken down or roots are crowded, choose a suitable fresh orchid mix and container size. Identify soft dead root sections carefully and remove them cleanly. Ordinary dense houseplant soil holds too little air. Feed weakly during active growth according to the orchid fertiliser label. White flowers need no special colour care. Roots and new leaves indicate how well the position works beyond the current bloom.

A spent flower stem is not goodbye

When the arch of flowers ends, Amabilis continues growing as an orchid. Completely dry stems can go. A healthy green stem may branch but does not have to produce new flowers immediately. A selective cut above a suitable node depends on the plant’s condition. If it is weak, leaf and root growth come first. Continue with a bright, warm position and moisture checks. Later flowering develops through suitable care and takes its own time. The next arch may follow a different shape from the sales photograph.

Care attentively and compare calmly

Look regularly at leaf undersides, the crown and root bases. Notice unusual pests or soft spots early rather than missing them for a long time among outer pots and supports. When buds drop, we first consider transport, temperature and draughts. Old damage does not visually heal away; healthy new growth shows improvement more reliably. A short note about watering and position helps interpretation. The festive white flowering moment thus becomes an everyday plant. The golden frame is lovely; the pleasure of continued growth is lovelier still.

Good to know

Is the golden outer pot included?

Yes, in the specifically described golden Elite version.

Are both versions the same height?

No. Gold is offered at about 40 cm total height and the separate silver version at about 35 cm. Both state a 9 cm pot.

Is Amabilis guaranteed here as a botanically pure species?

The offered trade name and white-flowered form are described; no unconfirmed pure-species guarantee is added.

Why do roots grow out of the pot?

Healthy aerial roots belong to the structure of Phalaenopsis.

May water remain in the golden container?

No. Let the inner pot drain completely after watering and empty the outer pot.

Will it bloom on the same date next year?

No fixed date is promised. Development and growing conditions determine further flowering.
