TopicWhat to doWhy it helps
ArrivalCheck rootball moisture, carry by pot not flower stems.Soil weight should not hang from branches.
PositionLight partial shade shielded from hot noon/drying wind.Large leaves/many heads use reserves.
PlantingMoisten ball, same height in humus-rich draining soil, water.Side root contact joins original ball/new soil.
WaterWater earth beneath heads, let excess drain.Rain on leaves no root-moisture proof; standing water not healthy supply.
ColourBlue culture uses suitable acid soil/rain preferably, products by instructions.Soil reaction/available aluminium influence blue/violet/pink.
FeedJudge bed/pot separately, suitable feed by need/label.Excess nitrogen soft leaves, not replacing root room.
PruningOld heads spring above strong live buds, selected old shoots thin if needed.Repeat bloom does not require radical annual cut.
WinterSheltered pot, clear outlet, protect new growth from late frost.Buds/limited roots sensitive despite perennial life.
1. Check moisture

For young plants, feel the soil directly at the root ball. The surface and deeper soil may have different moisture levels.

2. Water where needed

Water thoroughly after planting; later, water according to the soil, weather and establishment rather than a fixed calendar.

3. Check drainage

Avoid standing water. For plants in containers, also check that water runs out of the drainage hole.

Colour from many little surfaces

Ball is not single huge petal. Many broad ornamental florets overlap into rounded head. Blue originals show pale slightly lavender surfaces; purple offer violet to burgundy around bluish centres. Broad oval strongly serrated green leaves beneath, bold veins. Young heads initially green. Forever & Ever trade series of Hydrangea macrophylla. Portrait follows coloured offers, exact choice at shop link. Series name cannot promise identical colour at every time; seasonal changes make close observation interesting.

Arrival roots matter more than flower number

Both offers one23 cm pot plant roughly55 cm total including pot. Seven–twelve heads belong description, but bud stage/visible bloom seasonal too. Not later garden height. Supplier about 75–95 cm height/width developed guidance, not centimetre limit. Allow side space. Set pot secure, unpack gently among shoots, inspect earth. Dry ball slowly moisten/drain. Flower stems not handles for plant/soil weight; support ball beneath when unpotting.

Light garden with accessible roots

Sheltered terrace/light partial shade shows heads well. Mild morning/evening sun preferable hot wall/full noon. Beneath large trees shade alone insufficient: their roots may strongly dry ground. Humus soil holding moisture/root air. Spring/early autumn usually good starts; frozen/wet earth or summer heat difficult. Moistened ball surface level with ground, close soil sides/water. Group80–100 cm guidance plus maintenance access/future width by paths/strong neighbours.

Bring water beneath flowers

Large heads intercept rain while ground gets little. Check actual original ball even after bedding. Water slowly into root zone when needed. Container smaller reserves, warm/windy days more checks. Large stable holed vessel helps; no water left closed decorative pot. Drooping leaves assessed with soil: a dry rootball needs water, saturated soil first drainage/site check. Nutrients by need, supplied ground less extras than old container. Feed replaces neither water nor sound roots.

Blue/purple also belong to soil

Bought colour not independent roots. Suitable coloured macrophylla react to soil/available aluminium between blue/violet/pink. Acid hydrangea soil/preferably rain support blue. If rain absent adequate watering beats ideal water: no drying plant for colour. Strongly lime soil, blue easier in own appropriate container. No arbitrary household remedies, suitable products only by label/soil conditions. Heads age/change too; green young head or different later surface not automatic care issue.

Repeat bloom does not mean deep annual cuts

Series described reblooming, may flower on old/new wood. Possibilities still require existing-bud care. Retain branched structure at normal start. Dry heads may remain winter, removed spring above strong healthy bud pair when growth/frost damage identifiable. Dead parts to live wood. Older dense shrubs can lose selected very old stems at ground. Strong rejuvenation targeted changes height/branching/flower timing. Neither deep cuts/fixed date guarantees full same-year heads. Observe actual new growth after.

Distinguish winter from new shoots

Deciduous shrub loses autumn foliage, bare stems normal rest not already failure. Shelter containers before cold, keep outlet open so winter rain not standing. Dry frost-free days check soil; low leafless demand no excuse entirely dry ball. Young spring shoots/buds may suffer late frost; temporary suitable night protection helps. Wait live wood after frost before strong interventions. Summer brown margins, lasting wilt or spots prompt targeted water/root/site checks, not automatic stronger feed.

Good to know

Is Forever & Ever cultivar name?

Documented horticultural coloured macrophylla mophead series. Offer series/selected colour decisive.

Blue/purple always same?

No. Soil reaction/aluminium/flower age/culture affect tones, no lifelong colour guarantee.

Is55 cm later height?

About 55 cm total including23 cm pot. Developed supplier75–95 cm high/wide guidance; actual conditions affect.

All arrive open flowers?

Seven–twelve heads described, buds/fullness/season vary, pictures possible stages.

Strong cut annually for repeats?

No. Healthy structure, old heads spring above live buds, selected old stems thin if needed. Deep cut changes bloom, no guarantee.

Why droop in moist soil?

Heat or wet roots can stress. Check roots/outlet/site before more water, leaf alone cannot decide.
