Your care table
| Topic | What to do | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Light | Bright and filtered, increase sun gently. | Silvery leaves do not need a hot glass position. |
| Air | Position openly and well ventilated. | Wetness should dry again. |
| Water | Moisten thoroughly with suitable low-lime water. | Air plants still need moisture. |
| Drying | Drain well after supply and dry in air. | No standing moisture at the holder. |
| Attachment | Support loosely and openly, do not push into soil. | Distinguish anchoring roots from leaf uptake. |
| Checks | Inspect clips and fine leaves occasionally. | No constricting holders. |
| Nutrients | Only appropriately diluted tillandsia supply according to label. | No strong ordinary pot-plant supplies. |
| Winter | Bright and frost-free; observe drying time and warmth. | Do not continue rigid summer frequency. |
Take the tillandsia off its support. Do not rub the leaves; preserve the delicate silvery scales.
Use low-lime water at room temperature. The care table explains whether thorough misting or a short soak is suitable.
Gently shake off the water. Tilt rosettes downwards, hang loose strands without bunching them together and allow them to dry with good airflow.
Silvery leaves form a narrow outline
Many very narrow pointed leaves stand around an elongated shoot. Their pale surface gives the little tillandsia an almost silvery effect. Unlike a round dense rosette, it draws an elongated airy outline. The shop calls it Tillandsia funckiana. Botanical treatments can assign the name differently; Plants of the World Online today lists it as a synonym of Tillandsia andreana and mentions an alternative separate treatment too. This portrait stays with the particular elongated trade form shown and does not mix it with another round offer.
Delivered loose, placed carefully
The offer states roughly ten to twelve centimetres plant size. The tillandsia arrives loose and is not described as a potted plant with a soil root ball. A small cork piece or open twig fork can support it provided fine leaves are not firmly trapped. Gently release the little shoot when unpacking, without pulling leaf tips. Decoration can complement fastening but does not replace a suitable cultivation position. It also matters that the plant can be easily removed for moistening. A tightly closed decorative glass would hinder necessary air movement.
Bright air matters more than a pretty corner
Choose bright filtered light, good air exchange and a frost-free position. The silvery leaf surface is no licence for hot direct midday sun behind glass. Increase stronger light gently after transport. An airy shelf near a bright opening can suit, while a dark rear row of books is merely decorative. Check the position with doors closed and heating running too. Still air and persistent wetness behave differently from a bright airy spot where the plant can dry again after supply.
Air plant does not mean waterless plant
Leaves absorb moisture through specialised surfaces. Moisten the plant thoroughly with suitable water as low in lime as possible instead of merely misting the decorative holder. A removable loose plant can be watered briefly and carefully. Then let it drain well and position airily; it must dry again between supplies. A blanket weekly number does not replace observation. Warmth, air movement and light change consumption. Rigid drying tips and long-lasting wet patches each deserve closer inspection, not automatically the same extra amount of water.
Attachment stays open and accessible
This tillandsia is not pushed into potting soil. Its anchoring roots serve mainly attachment, while leaf area remains decisive for supply. Use suitable open support and occasionally check whether wire or a clip cuts in. If nutrients are supplied, use only an appropriately diluted tillandsia-suitable product according to label. Strong ordinary pot-plant applications are not copied. The surface should neither be polished nor treated with unchecked sprays. Assess a damaged leaf gently without reattaching the entire delicate plant at the same time.
Take drying particularly seriously in winter
Keep the small air plant bright and frost-free. In cooler darker phases, drying can take longer; actual condition comes before the summer routine. Direct heater proximity can instead dry it rapidly. Possible flowering is not promised for the young condition shown. The whole elongated silhouette beside a detail of fine leaves is useful in the plant book. Note how readily it dries after supply and its position. Air plant thus remains an understandable description of its lifestyle, not a supposed promise of no care at all.
One plant, several views

Good to know
Is a pot included?
The specific offer describes a loose plant without a soil root ball.
Should I put it in normal potting soil?
No. An open holder and supply through leaves suit the air plant.
Does it really need water?
Yes. Air plant does not mean waterless; leaves take up moisture.
Is funckiana always botanically separate from andreana?
Treatments differ; POWO lists funckiana as a synonym and mentions alternative separate taxonomy.
Why position it airily after watering?
The plant should drain and dry again instead of staying permanently wet.
