Your care table

TopicWhat to doWhy it helps
LightGrow in bright indirect light.Dark-green foliage does not permit darkness.
PositionAvoid cold draughts and hot heating nearby.Stable conditions make settling in easier.
WaterWater as needed after slight drying.Leaf fall is not used as the only signal.
Pot coverCheck for residual water after watering.Dry outside does not mean dry inside.
SoilChoose free-draining houseplant compost and unobstructed drainage. The root ball needs moisture and air.
FertiliserDose moderately according to label while growing.Nourishment follows new shoots.
CrownPrune only where needed, wearing gloves.Fine branches and irritating milky sap require care.
WinterKeep frost-free and reassess use.Less light often slows drying.
1. Check moisture

Check the compost and pot weight. The care table explains how far the compost may dry.

2. Water slowly

Water only when needed. The water should reach the root ball without spilling over the rim.

3. Let it drain

Remove surplus water from the saucer or cachepot. Then return the plant to a suitable position.

Danielle arranges many small leaves into a crown

Glossy dark-green leaves sit closely on slender branches. Their oval surfaces taper to a point, keeping the crown delicate despite its fullness. Danielle has no creamy-white margins in the assigned original photograph. On a pale console, the rich green forms a calm focus among simple objects. Allow space at the sides too, so new branches are not constantly pressed along a wall. The trade name Ficus benjamini Danielle belongs to the weeping fig botanically named Ficus benjamina.

A fourteen-centimetre pot is the beginning

The assortment offer describes a 14 cm pot and about 45 cm overall height including the container. The young dense shape is not a fixed final size. When unpacking, hold the pot rather than using the crown as a handle. Release wrapping carefully from fine branches, then check root ball and stability. A larger decorative cover may look suitable, but does not replace a draining nursery pot. The first photograph in the plant book records existing branching and helps compare new shoots later.

A dependable position is part of care

Danielle receives bright indirect daylight and protection from sudden hot sun. Dark-green foliage does not make it suitable for a permanently dark shelf. Make sure the console itself gets enough light. Cold draughts when ventilating or right by the entrance are unfavourable. A weeping fig may lose some leaves after moving; allow time and check conditions rather than constantly trying new places. Root-ball moisture remains important too. Moving is only one possible explanation for leaf fall.

The dense crown does not make the root ball invisible

Do not push every branch aside for every check. Surface soil and container weight can be checked with the pot securely on a clear surface. After slight drying, water slowly, reach the root ball and let excess drain. Soil should neither stay saturated nor remain completely dry for long. A falling leaf does not decide the next watering. Check a pot cover particularly carefully: everything may look dry outside while water from the last watering still sits at the bottom.

Support new branches with suitable nourishment

Free-draining houseplant compost supports the roots. Repot only slightly larger when genuinely needed. During active growth, feed moderately according to the fertiliser label, allowing for existing pre-fertilisation. The young crown need not be regularly clipped hard. If removing a branch, cut cleanly and wear gloves; milky sap may irritate. Do not consume and keep out of reach of children and pets. Support small leaves while dusting, and inspect branches for scale insects, deposits or new damage at the same time.

Actual use matters in winter

Danielle stays indoors frost-free. Less daylight and slower growth may leave soil moist longer. Check again before each watering and do not feed unchanged as during strong new growth. A photograph in similar light shows whether the crown is becoming denser. Gloss may look lighter or darker according to viewing angle. Compare leaf numbers and new branches over a longer period rather than changing soil, pot, fertiliser and position all at once after a single leaf falls.

Good to know

Does Danielle have white leaf margins?

The assigned original plant shows dark-green foliage without pale margins.

Can it stand in a dark hall?

A bright, indirectly lit position is more suitable.

Is 45 cm the eventual final height?

No. This describes the young plant including its pot.

Why do leaves fall after moving?

Changed conditions may contribute; moisture and draughts are checked too.

Must the crown be constantly pruned?

For the young plant, targeted pruning when genuinely needed is enough.
