Your care table

TopicWhat to doWhy it helps
LightPosition sunny and sheltered. The fine aromatic foliage needs sufficient light.
WaterWater as needed after some drying.Small root balls dry faster than established beds.
DrainageKeep the pot hole clear and avoid standing water.Persistent wetness strains the root zone.
HarvestCut young healthy tips across different shoots.Enough foliage remains for further growth.
Kitchen useUse fresh or dried, sparingly to taste. The savoury aroma can be pronounced.
FertiliserSparingly during growth according to the label.Heavy feeding is not required for seasoning strength.
WinterIn a container, preferably overwinter bright and frost-free.The stated frost tolerance is limited.
ChecksVentilate inner shoots and remove dead material.Dense moist areas make healthy regrowth harder.
1. Check moisture

Check the compost and pot weight. The care table explains how far the compost may dry.

2. Water slowly

Water only when needed. The water should reach the root ball without spilling over the rim.

3. Let it drain

Remove surplus water from the saucer or cachepot. Then return the plant to a suitable position.

Fine foliage with a strong savoury note

Gyros herb stands out with its narrow finely divided grey-green leaves. Its savoury aroma is primarily used for kitchen seasoning. It belongs to the genus Artemisia and thus the Asteraceae family, not thyme or rosemary. Shop and producer use the name Artemisia caucasica. Since botanical name directories classify that name differently, we do not transfer an uncertain origin or particularly strong winter hardiness to the offered plant. The specific producer advice remains decisive for cultivation.

A small pot for a sheltered sunny position

It is delivered in a 12 cm pot. The stated height of 30 to 40 cm describes growth, not confirmed delivery height. The image therefore shows a young compact specimen. A sunny container position is easy to check and protect when winter arrives. In a bed, only a suitably sheltered freely draining area is appropriate. Leave some air around it for a lasting attractive shape. Among densely crowding neighbours, the fine foliage not only disappears visually but also dries less well after rain.

Plenty of light and an airy root zone

The supplier recommends a sunny position. After shipping, acclimatise the plant to intense sunshine, particularly if previously sheltered. Use a freely draining herb or potting mix in a container and ensure free drainage. The root ball may dry somewhat between applications, but during growth in the small pot it should not constantly dry to the point of damage. Damp heavy ground is unfavourable. During rainy periods, a sheltered position helps prevent continual new excess water.

Discover the aroma with small quantities

Cut healthy young shoot tips with clean tools; fine leaves can then be separated from firmer stems. Use small quantities initially and gradually learn its seasoning strength. According to the supplier, the herb suits savoury dishes both fresh and dried. It may accompany vegetables, potatoes or a spicy sauce, for example. Wash fresh harvest and use only securely identified plants offered for kitchen use. No healing effect or courses of ingestion are inferred from the seasoning portrait.

Regular care keeps growth dense

Harvest across several shoots and leave sufficient healthy foliage. A single radical bare cut unnecessarily weakens a small plant. Repotting becomes sensible once roots have filled the sale pot well; choose a new pot only moderately larger. In active growth in depleted soil, feed sparingly according to the label. Excessive applications are unnecessary for compact aromatic herb cultivation. Check closely packed shoot tips for aphids and remove dead material from the interior.

Plan overwintering in good time

The producer describes gyros herb as only conditionally frost-hardy and gives approximately minus 5 °C. This is not a guarantee for a wet small pot through a prolonged winter. A bright cool frost-free position is the more reliable choice for container cultivation. Water less in winter but continue observing the root ball rather than forgetting it completely. Outdoor protection must not block air exchange or drainage. In spring, selectively remove dead tips and acclimatise the plant gradually to the sunny outdoor position again.

Good to know

Is gyros herb reliably winter-hardy?

The supplier gives only limited frost tolerance. A small container should preferably overwinter bright and frost-free.

Can I also use it for vegetarian dishes?

Yes. The savoury seasoning can accompany vegetables, potatoes or spicy sauces, for example.

Is 30 to 40 cm the delivery height?

No. It is the stated growth height; no specific delivery height is guaranteed with the 12 cm pot.

Can I use the herb for a treatment?

This portrait describes kitchen seasoning use and includes no recommendation for healing treatments or courses of ingestion.
