Your care table
| Topic | What to do | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Light | Grow sunny to bright partial shade. | The kitchen position must receive actual daylight. |
| Outdoors | Acclimatise gradually to outdoor sun. | Consider sheltered earlier growth. |
| Winter | Place bright and frost-free. | Cold can substantially slow growth. |
| Water | Check roots and supply as needed. | No unchanged summer routine in winter. |
| Container | Keep drainage and outer pot accessible. | Excess may drain. |
| Harvest | Take a few leaves or tips cleanly. | Do not harvest the young plant bare. |
| Pruning | Work above existing leaf starts. | Do not transfer general height guidance to young plants. |
| Fertiliser | Dose by label during active growth. | Consider initial fertilisation and actual new growth. |
Check the compost and pot weight. The care table explains how far the compost may dry.
Water only when needed. The water should reach the root ball without spilling over the rim.
Remove surplus water from the saucer or cachepot. Then return the plant to a suitable position.
Mushroom plant grows as a green plant, not a fungus
Strong green Rungia klossii leaves initially recall a lush kitchen plant with upright shoots. They are relatively thick and give the crown a firm living shape. Tasting a small washed harvest explains the name: leaf aroma mildly recalls fresh mushrooms. The plant itself is of course not a fungus and produces no button mushrooms. Its green starting state is visible in the original. Leaf form and surprising aroma make its own herb story.
A manageable pot initially remains a young plant
The shop states a 12 cm pot without fixed delivery height. The grower’s roughly thirty to forty centimetres refer to later development, not current shipping dimensions. Initially position the small crown so you reach individual tips and the root centre. In a bright herb corner it needs lateral room for leaves. A decorative outer pot suits if easily removed to check. Furnishings and vegetables in the scene belong to surroundings, not plant delivery contents.
Its lasting position must be bright and frost-free
Sunny to bright partial shade fits grower guidance. Acclimatise protected-grown plants gradually to strong outdoor sun. A suitable sheltered outdoor position is possible in summer; winter needs bright frost-free space. The grower describes slower growth below around twelve degrees. That is no invitation to leave the young plant outdoors in frost. A dark cold kitchen corner gives little fresh growth. Choose light and cultivation rather than only closeness to a chopping board.
View the small crown before harvesting
Start with a few washed leaves or individual young tips. Their aroma can complement raw and warm preparations. Do not harvest a vigorous young plant down to bare shoots. Cut gently above existing leaf starts, keeping enough green area. General guidance for tall grower crops is not a fixed twenty-centimetre cut for every small shipped pot. What remains matters more than a rigid cutting number. Healthy leaf pairs make the next growth easier to follow.
Supply remains tied to roots
Check soil and small-pot weight before the next supply. Water roots becoming dry and let excess drain. Check closed outer pots too so soil does not stay unseen and waterlogged. Good herb potting soil and a draining container are a practical start. Feed moderately by suitable label during clear growth. Do not continue summer routine unchanged through cooler or darker winter needs. Kitchen aroma replaces neither light nor the brief moisture check.
A green plant can already make a complete portrait
Choose an overall crown and leaf close-up for the plant book. Record new tips after a small harvest. Follow your own cultivation without claiming fixed bloom phases or unconfirmed flower delivery. Rungia klossii is presented here as an aromatic herb, not a remedy. Strong foliage and unusual flavour suffice. A clear plant centre is also easier to inspect than a crown squeezed between kitchen appliances.

Good to know
Do real mushrooms grow on it?
No. The name refers to mild mushroom-like leaf aroma.
Is 30–40 cm delivery height?
No. It is grower development guidance; only pot reference is specified here.
Can mushroom plant overwinter outdoors?
Plan bright frost-free cultivation; no frost-hardiness promised.
Must I cut every plant to fixed height?
No. Young-crown size and remaining leaf starts determine gentle pruning.
Does the article need invented flowers for completeness?
No. The supported range state and herb care already make a complete knowledge portrait.
